Children from Class 2 attended the Year 3/4 Tag Rugby Festival at Parkside Academy on Thursday 19th October. They were put into two teams and played games against other schools in two sets. The children had lots of fun learning the rules and playing the games. Both teams played really well scoring touchdowns.

‘Magic Mike’ – WSCC assembly
Key stage 2 children enjoyed a magical visit from Mr Delf of WSCC and his friend the nutty professor. They came to talk about choices. Mr Delf talked about personal choices including important choices like choosing your Secondary school. However, the children had lots of fun as the nutty professor kept catching them out with his magic tricks – no matter what choices they made.

Class 2’s assembly ‘was linked to their class reader ‘The Minpins by Roald Dahl’. In the book the main character, Little Billy, helps the Minpins defeat the terrible Gruncher by flying on the back of the swan. In the book there is mention of Cloudland. The children planned their own story about an adventure in Cloudland, they wrote descriptions about what they thought it would look like and then created a description of their own monster. They then wrote their stories which they read out in assembly.

Woodland Trust assembly
On Monday 25th September we had a visitor from the Woodland Trust visit our school to give our pupils in Key Stage 1 and 2 an assembly about the impact they, individually and as a school, can have on the environment. The children listened carefully to a story about planting trees and woodland.
Our ‘Green Leaders’ group are looking forward to working towards achieving the ‘Green Tree Schools Award’ this year (run by the Woodland Trust).
M&S LED Store Promotion Day
We took seven of our Key Stage 2 pupils to the Marks and Spencers store at Arnison Centre, Durham on Saturday 23rd September. The aim of the visit was to promote our project and attempt to get people to vote for us. The pupils were fantastic at spreading the word through handing out leaflets, having conversations with the public and using the iPads to get people to vote there and then.
Since returning to school from the visit we have received a lovely email from a lady we met on Saturday in store: ‘Just thought I would drop a line and say what a credit to your school the young boy is who was in Marks and Spencers canvassing for funding for your school. He was a pleasant, lovely boy and I am sure he will have won many votes for you school. Well done and good luck’.
All of the children who we took on the visit were absolutely fantastic and we are very proud of their behaviour and attitude towards this important task. Also, a massive thank you to the staff in store who looked after us brilliantly on the day.
And remember: PLEASE VOTE FOR US! Voting is open until Friday 20th October 2017.

Our ‘Green Leaders’ group are very excited to be taking part in the poster competition.

We had our rearranged sports day on Thursday 14th September. Even though the weather wasn’t completely nice to us, we managed to go ahead with a slightly reorganised timetable of events. Chris Cook, who has been working with our pupils on the Inspire Programme, joined us for the afternoon.
The young leaders from Year 6 were fantastic in leading the activities and organising the younger children.
Well done to team ‘Mo Farah’ for getting the most points from our races and to everyone for taking part!
