EYFS and KS1 Nativity 2017

January 4, 2018 by helendobson

Our Early Years and Key Stage One children performed in their nativity on Wednesday 13th December. What a fantastic performance it was!

The nativity was called ‘A king is born’ and was centred around a family on Christmas Eve. The children in the family wanted to read a story before bedtime on Christmas Eve and their Mum read them the nativity story. The children then acted out the nativity story and sang the songs beautifully throughout the performance.

We had a fantastic celebration of the achievements throughout our school during celebrations assembly. Children received behaviour certificates for outstanding behaviour for the whole term and also attendance awards were handed out. Children from Year 5 received certificates to celebrate their achievements in science lessons at WSCC. Also some KS2 children received certificates for their swimming achievements.

Children enjoyed singing and dancing to songs from the EYFS and KS1 Nativity and also the KS2 Christmas production ‘The Secret Behind Christmas’.

Year 5 Science at WSCC

December 18, 2017 by helendobson

Our year five pupils have had a brilliant time becoming scientists in the Chemistry laboratory at Wolsingham School and Community College. The programme of activities ran for half a term, with the children enjoying lunch at the school then an afternoon in the science laboratory. All the children earned their Bunsen burner certificates allowing them to observe changes when they applied heat during their experiments. They have had lots of fun investigating acid and alkali solutions, exploring chromatography and the magical powers of static electricity – not to mention the fantastic properties of slime! Each child was presented with a certificate as a memento of the experience.

Christingle Service

December 3, 2017 by helendobson

Our Christingle Service took place on Friday 1st December and it definitely began our Christmas festivities well!

Unfortunately, the heavy snow from the previous day meant that the service was held in school rather than our local church, St Philip and St James’. Parents, family and friends showed fantastic support to the children and our hall was almost overflowing with people!

We heard the story about the first Christingle, the work that the Children’s Society does and the significance of the different parts of the Christingle.

The children sang beautifully and some children even took on the mighty task of a solo/duet performance during ‘Sing Christingle’.

The service was a lovely start to our Christmas celebrations in school.

Mini Police Year 5 and 6

December 3, 2017 by helendobson

The Mini Police scheme arrived at Tow Law Millennium Primary School on Monday 27 November. The children eagerly awaited the arrival of the Police Youth Development workers. The children are taking part in a 7 week programme where they will learn about a variety of skills as well as being ambassadors of the school in their “mini police uniform”. Part of the programme will include the children sharing their experiences with the rest of the school when they present an assembly in the new year. More information will be available as the scheme progresses.

Class 1 Family Assembly

November 30, 2017 by helendobson

Class 1 presented their first family assembly of the school year in October. The whole class had been enthused by their literacy work looking at characters and what motivates them to behave in certain ways. Due to this excitement, they decided they wanted to re-create a variety of scenarios based on a theme. As you can see in the images, they worked exceptionally well within their teams and thought carefully about how they presented themselves on the stage. It was clear from the reaction of the audience that they were very engaging and presented themselves confidently. Well done to the whole class on a very successful performance.

Years 5/6 Tag Rugby

November 30, 2017 by helendobson

It was a bitter cold day on Thursday 16 November, when a group of year 5 and 6 children went to Wolsingham Comprehensive School to take part in a Sainsbury’s School Games Tag Rugby competition. The 20 children were split into 2 teams and fought hard throughout the biting day. The children displayed an excellent attitude and showed great sportsmanship throughout all their games. Miss Mawson was exceptionally proud of all the children who represented the school, one team came 4th and another came 5th. Well done to all of the children who participated.
