September 2020 transition

June 23, 2020 by helendobson

Please find below an important letter from Mrs Jackson regarding our initial planning for September 2020.

We have taken the decision to keep the children from Reception to Y5 in the same classes in September with the same class teacher. This will give our pupils, many of whom have not seen us for a long time, the opportunity to see a familiar face when they return, as well as have some closure on the current year. This plan is for the first half term. After the week off for October half term, the children will move to their new class.

As always, we will share further information with you as soon as we have it.

June 10, 2020 by helendobson

We would like to inform you all that we have everything in place for wider reopening and so we will be welcoming our Year 6 pupils back on Monday 15th June.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming back further pupils, alongside our key worker pupils.

We will be contacting our Year 6 parents/carers via email today to gather final numbers for Monday 15th June. We would ask that you respond to this as soon as possible. Please note, this email will be sent from a new ‘Teacher Contact’ email address: teachers@towlaw.durham.sch.uk .

As always, if you have any further questions about our reopening or any other issue, please do not hesitate to phone the school office 01388 730283.

Durham County Council Coronavirus Guidance 27th May

May 27, 2020 by helendobson

Earlier this morning (Wednesday 27th May), we received guidance from Durham County Council which stated that they believe 15th June is a ‘more realistic timeline for all schools to work towards for expanding their numbers subject to Government scientific advice and individual school risk assessments.’

Therefore, we now hope to invite our Year 6 pupils back first from 15th June.

Durham County Council state that they have made this decision based on the fact that ‘the publication of the SAGE papers, delay in Contact Tracing implementation, and infection rate data showing the North East as the highest in the country, do not provide the clear higher level assurances that DCC, school communities and parents have been seeking.’

We will keep in touch with any further updates we receive.

Landscape, Nature and the Sheep Farming Year Project

April 6, 2020 by helendobson

The Landscape, Nature & the Sheep Farming Year project was a year-long arts, environment and heritage project bringing together four County Durham schools: Blessed John Duckett , Peases West, Stanley Crook and Tow Law Millennium Primary with conservationists, historians and artists.

The project celebrates the natural and working landscape on the ridge between Satley, Tow Law, Stanley Crook and Billy Row in Wear Valley, County Durham.

Participants learnt about elements of local sheep rearing and the Viking heritage of rare breeds. They made artwork using sheep as live ‘models’, learned techniques such as spinning, braiding, felting, and enjoyed taking part in their own ‘Country Fair.’

Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this project and we hope you enjoy seeing their work in this flipbook.

School Nursing Service

March 24, 2020 by helendobson

The contact for our school nursing service during the pandemic is the single point of contact which is 03000 263538.

They are still available to offer their service via telephone or facetime during this difficult period. We appreciate that families will still require their service, possibly now more than ever.

It would be especially helpful if parents could update the service with their telephone contact details so that they are more easily able to stay in touch with families.

Many thanks.
