In April, the whole school took part in activities to celebrate Holi festival: the festival of colour. Following their work in classes, they shared the work they had completed in a family assembly.
Queen’s 90th Birthday
Happy 90th birthday to Our Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Class 5 enjoyed a street party to celebrate the occasion.
KS1 and KS2 will mark the occasion with celebrations in June.
Easter Service
Our whole school went to St Phillip and St James’ Church for our Easter service. The speakers read very clearly in and everyone sang beautifully.
Visit to Hancock Museum March 2016
Class 2 and Class 3 children really enjoyed their visit to the Egyptian Gallery in the Great North Museum. They all had lots of fun finding out about Egyptian artefacts and life in Ancient Egypt, especially when they got to see a real preserved mummy.
After lunch they enjoyed a visit to the fossil hall and seeing the T Rex skeleton.
The children raised £41 in donations to the museum and will have a permanent record of their donation with a blue butterfly with our school name displayed in the butterfly hall.
We have added some photographs for you to enjoy.
Young Carers Charter
We are very proud to announce that we have been awarded the Young Carers Charter at Tow Law Millennium Primary School.
We are committed to finding ways of listening to and supporting any young person in school who may have a caring role or responsibilities for others at home. We hope that we can ultimately improve the educational experiences and achievements of these pupils and also empower them to seek help and support when necessary. There is an understanding that many young carers shoulder responsibilities well beyond their years, and our school continues to work hard to support these pupils to become the best that they can be, despite the pressures they face.
Scoop Returns – Green dog walker competition winner
We have a winner. When Scoop from the Green dog campaign visited our school he challenged the buddies to design a poster encouraging responsible dog ownership. He was pleased to return to school to present Chantel with her winners certificate for an excellent poster reminding dog owners to, “Clean it up! Bag it. Bin it.” Thank you to all the Buddies for their inspiring posters and congratulations Chantel.
Party Time
Lots of fun was had by all at our Christmas parties, with lots of games such as the old favourite – pass the parcel and a new invention – “Reindeer reins,” a race with strawberry laces. There were some fantastic moves in the dance contests but the children were really tested when it came to musical statues! A great way to end the year.
Nativity Performance KS1 and EYFS
Well done to our fantastic performers in EYFS and KS1! They performed their nativity to a hall full of people on Wednesday 16th December, singing songs beautifully and saying their words clearly. Everyone in the hall was mesmerised by the performance, it was brilliant! A big thank you to parents of the children who helped them learn their words virtually overnight! Well done EYFS and KS1 children!
Durham Music Service Concert
The children were treated to a Christmas themed concert by musicianns from Durham County’s music service. The music teachers introduced the children to the features of all the different wind instruments and entertained them with a variety of songs from traditional Christmas Carols through to the very popular Frozen. The children enjoyed singing along and a few couldn’t resist dancing. At the end they all gave an enthusiastic, “thank you,” to the performers
