Inspire Day Two

June 9, 2017 by helendobson

On Monday 5th June, Chris Cook came into school for our second Inspire Day.

We started the day with an inspiring assembly about reaching for your dreams and setting goals but not being disheartened if you do not achieve them.

Chris then did a workshop with each class about ‘mindfulness’.

We look forward to Chris coming back into school for our final Inspire Day on our Sports Day, Monday 10th July.

Preston Park Whole School Trip

June 9, 2017 by helendobson

On Thursday 26th May, our whole school, from Reception to Year 6, visited Preston Park. It was a very hot, sunny day and the children enjoyed their time in the outdoors in this wonderful park.

Each class took part in a Victorian history workshop and then had free time to explore. They explored the Victorian street, woodland areas and, of course, the playground!

We all had a fantastic day at our whole school trip.

Chickens!

June 9, 2017 by helendobson

The Early Years team welcomed some new members to school this week. Their four Ginger Nut Ranger Hens were purchased from Durham Hens. They settled really well into their new coop, that had been sourced from The feed Warehouse, Delves Lane. In fact they have settled in so well that they started laying eggs on the second day.in school.

The children held an election in their classes to give the new arrivals their names. They can easily be told apart because the girls, each have a fashionable ankle bracelet in their own individual colour:

Mrs McClucky, named by Class 3, has yellow,

Pecker, named by Class 4 , has blue,

Smidge, named by Reception, has green,

and Flower, named by Nursery, has red.

They are currently in their new run, but this is going to be extended in the near future so they have more space to run around in. They are fed with chicken pellets, which they can access 24 hours and have fresh water available in their hen house.

British Values Week – May 2017

June 9, 2017 by helendobson

The week before May half term, our children across school enjoyed a variety of activities linked to British Values.

Each teacher in school taught a lesson to each class related to a British Value:

Miss Dobson taught a ‘democracy’ lesson,

Miss Thompson taught an ‘individual liberty’ lesson,

Miss Mawson taught a ‘rule of law’ lesson,

Mrs McCluskey taught a ‘mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith’ lesson.

Our reception children learnt about British Values linked to Mr Men.

The children really enjoyed learning about aspects of British parliament and life in modern day British society.

Official opening of WSCC

May 21, 2017 by helendobson

On Thursday 16th March 2017 Miss Coates and I were proud to accompany two of our young people to the official opening of Wolsingham School.
The school has undergone a transformation merging successfully the old grammar school dating back to 1614 with the new state of the art extension.
The proceedings were led by His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester. The highlight of the occasion for our young people was watching His Royal Highness depart by helicopter from the school field.
Lisa Jackson, Headteacher.
