X Factor

September 25, 2016 by helendobson

Once again, X Factor was a fantastic night enjoyed by all involved! This year 15 acts were due to take part but unfortunately as one child was ill we had 14 acts. They were accompanied by an array of amazing dancers. Children were involved from year 1 up to year 6 and all displayed a wonderful attitude. The children were joined by three judges; Mr Bell (our Chair of Governors); Mr Elliott ( Head of Wolsingham Comprehensive School ) and Miss Kacey Blenkinsop, a previous pupil who continues to come and support the school both on X Factor night and throughout the rehearsals.

The show was a sell out and the audience were thrilled with all acts. We were treated to a performance by Kacey ( a previous winner of X Factor ) while the votes were counted and verified. Then the announcement was made – Lewis Davis had won, singing  his interpretation of Livin’ On a Prayer by Bon Jovi. He had thrilled the audience with his whole performance. The night need with thanks to all the helpers and staff who supported the event and then Lewis performed his winning song again surrounded by all the other acts and dancers, who cheered him on. It had been a long few months with rehearsals starting back in February but when the night finally arrived in June everyone was raring to go. Thanks to everyone ( including staff and other pupils who helped with the refreshments )  and it has once again been a pleasure to work with the talented and enthusiastic children at Tow Law Millennium Primary.

Class 3 Waskerley Walk and Burnhill

July 13, 2016 by helendobson

As part of our geography work in the Summer term Class 3 visited Waskerley Station where they met Dave, a former Countryside ranger.

The children visited St Matthew’s church and enjoyed hearing about the history of the church and village before walking along the Waskerley Way , previously a railway line between Consett and Darlington, to Burnhill Nature reserve. The children found out about how the railway was used as the main way to transport freight between the main towns of the area. They especially enjoyed finding out about the Dingy Skipper butterfly and of the work that Mr Bell, the rangers and the local schools have completed to ensure they have a habitat to live.

When they arrived at Burnhill, the children enjoyed their packed lunches, provided by the school kitchen, before pond dipping. They gained a new school record for finding 16 newts in the pond, however the current record is finding 21 newts in one visit. We shall have to visit again to see if we can break the record.

Sports Day 2016

July 12, 2016 by helendobson

Our sports day was a fantastic success and everyone had a brilliant time!

Children from KS1 and KS2 took part in a carousel of activities before the races began. Children from Year 6 planned and ran the carousel of activities with activities ranging from throwing skills, football skills, javelin, shotput to an obstacle course.  The children then had the option to join in with races. There were a selection of races: sprint, long distance, hurdles and relay. Also, of course, there was the toddlers race and parents race!

We were very lucky with the weather, it started raining five minutes after the final race had finished!

Thank you to everyone who came along to support their children and the teams.

A final, massive well done to ‘Jessica Ennis’ team who won sports day overall.

EYFS took part in a separate sports day. Our nursery children took part in a carousel style sports day with a variety of activities located on their yard. Children in reception completed races on the field.
