Consultation with Children and Young People with SEND
Teachers/SENCO and support staff will work with children and young people to identify the support needed to meet agreed outcomes. The provision is planned and interventions are allocated to individual needs. The children take an active role with setting their outcomes and discussing them with the class teacher/SENCO. The children have regular meetings with staff to discuss their progress and support.
Often children’s opinions about their learning and how their needs can be met are also captured through informal conversations with trusted adults in school. Where appropriate, children take part in EHCP annual review meetings. In addition, all children across school take part in an annual pupil survey.
Consultation with parents and carers of children and young people with SEND
We are committed to working with parents and carers to identify their child’s needs and support. Parents and carers will be involved throughout the process.
There is a range of ways this can be done, for example:
- Termly parents/ carers evenings;
- Ongoing discussions with a class teacher and/or SENCO;
- An ‘open-door’ policy, where parents and carers are welcome to come into school to discuss any concerns they may have;
- Through regular reviews of their child’s SEN Support Plan/ EHC Plan.
We offer an open door policy, termly parent’s consultations and you are welcome always to make an appointment to meet with either the class teacher or SENCO and discuss how your child is getting on if this is more convenient. We offer advice and practical ways that you can help your child at home. We provide regular homework to support and complement the work carried out in school. We believe that your child’s education should be a partnership between parents and teachers, therefore we aim to keep communication channels open and communicate regularly, especially if your child has complex needs. Sometimes, we operate a home/school link book which your child will bring home regularly so that comments from parents and teacher can be shared and responded to when needed, this ensures that we can also work together and there is a constant line of communication.
