Class 4 Sikh Temple and Class 3 Hindu Temple Visit

On Wednesday 22nd June, Class 3 and Class 4 went on a trip to Newcastle. Class 3 visited the Hindu Temple and Class 4 visited the Sikh Temple (Gurdwara).

Class 3 visited the ISKON Hindu temple, on Westgate Road in Newcastle. During the visit the children found out about the history of Hinduism and the main beliefs. Kirtida, the temple leader, was impressed with the children’s knowledge of Hinduism. The children were allowed to dress up in traditional costumes and were told about the traditions of festivals and weddings, as well as having a drumming workshop. Part if the visit was learning about meditation, the class really enjoyed this experience.

Class 4 visited the Gurdwara on Westgate Road in Newcastle. The children were welcomed into the temple and enjoyed some snacks in the Langar Hall. They they got to experience the main hall in the temple and enjoyed listening to a member of the Gurdwara singing Guru. Following this, they explored the remaining rooms in the temple and enjoyed asking Cloud lots of interesting questions.

At lunchtime, the two classes joined together again and went to Saltwell Park. Here, they had a picnic lunch and then completed a geography map reading skills activity.

Ramadan Festival Days

On Thursday 16th and Friday 17th June, the whole school took part in activities to celebrate our multi-cultural days of Ramadan.

The children presented their work in a family assembly on Friday afternoon.

Class 4 Farm to Fork visit

On Tuesday 7th June, Class 4 went on a visit to Tesco at Consett. They learnt about the different types of food sold at Tesco including; fruit and vegetables, fish, cheese and bakery products. The children were very lucky because they got to sample different foods and go in parts of Tesco people would not normally be allowed, such as the bakery.

Queen’s 90th Birthday Street Party

Children in KS1 and KS2 celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday on Friday 10th June. They learnt about the Royal family, made birthday cards for the Queen and made crowns to wear at our street party.

During the afternoon, the children had a street party dressed in their red, white and blue clothes.

They ended the day watching a live assembly from Windsor Castle to celebrate the Queen’s special birthday.

Wesak Multi-Cultural Days

On Thursday 26th and Friday 27th May, the whole school enjoyed taking part in activities to celebrate Wesak day.

The activities included: animal masks, lanterns, cards, poems and diary entries.

EYFS and KS1 Bike Track Markings

During the summer term, the school council have been working hard to fundraise for a bike track to be marked onto the EYFS and KS1 yard. In May, this was completed and the school councillors went out to look at the finished product. The children in class 4 and 5 are very happy with the new feature on their playground!

On Wednesday 18 May the children in KS1 and KS2 enjoyed listening to assemblies which were presented by the NSPCC. Following this, the children in KS2 took part in workshops in the following week.

Queen’s 90th Birthday

Happy 90th birthday to Our Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Class 5 enjoyed a street party to celebrate the occasion.
