My name is Steven Matthews and I’m the Parent Governor. My appointment, following election in 2019, is my first experience as a school governor. I was born in Durham in the late seventies, the eldest of three brothers with a father in the Fire service and my mother a Nurse. During my childhood, I found I had a natural flair for computer programming which led me to study Computer Science at Sunderland University. I’ve worked for any number of companies in all manor of businesses from Insurance to Healthcare, always within IT. I did have a brief foray into all things equestrian, having run a stable yard in Epsom. I spent my 30’s living and working in London and the South East but moved back to County Durham when our first child was born. I have a keen interest in motorsport, having spent a number of weekend supporting a number of teams, usually as a mechanic and occasionally as a navigator. I’m also a very amateur musician having learned classical guitar from the age of eight. I’ve lived in Tow Law with my wife and three young children for around four years. My eldest is presently at Millennium Primary, with my middle child due to start in September and my youngest to start Nursery early in the new year.
