Below is a range of information that will help you to get a better understanding of what a return to school will look like for children and will outline the measures we are putting in place to ensure the safety and well being of pupils, staff and our whole school community.
Classroom organisation/staffing
All children will remain in their current class from 2019 – 2020, with their current teacher for the first half term after summer, 2/9/2020 – 23/10/2020. After October half term, they will move up to their new class. Induction for this transition will be planned closer to the time.

- Please note – despite the school day being shorter for all pupils by 20 minutes, our lunchtime will be 20 minutes shorter due to lunches being eaten in classrooms. This means no child is missing a minute of their education due to staggered start/finish times.Only one parent/carer will bring their child/ren on to the school yard for drop off/pick up.We will allow some discretion for drop off/pick up times for parents who have children in a number of bubbles. We ask that parents who are experiencing difficulties with varied drop offs/pick-ups ring the school office to discuss flexibility with Mrs Jackson. However, we are treating the Nursery and new Reception induction as totally separate and siblings in older year groups will attend at their allocated times.
We will continue to have staggered playtimes and lunchtimes.
Classroom layout/routines
Layout: Classrooms will be laid out with desks facing forwards, children will not be sat facing each other. Any excess furniture will be removed from classrooms and stored in the hall. Children will be sat next to another child on each desk.
Timetable: All children will receive a visual timetable before the summer holidays of what their school day/week will look like in September.
Hand washing routine: We will continue to follow an increased hand washing routine across the school day.
Cleaning: There will be extra cleaning of touch points throughout the school day, alongside regular cleaning by our Caretaker and Cleaner on a morning/evening.
Playtime/lunchtime resources: These will be allocated to each ‘class bubble’ and not mixed between.
After school clubs
We will not be running after school clubs during autumn 1st half term. We will review the situation for autumn 2nd half term.
Homework
We are currently looking in to setting homework virtually. We will communicate the decision made on this with parents in due course.
School lunches
From Monday 28th September, Taylor Shaw will provide a hot ‘take away’ meal following a rolling weekly menu. The children will continue to eat at their desk in their classroom to minimise cross contamination and cleaning. School will provide every child with a water bottle in September (who requires one). Water bottles will be filled at home each morning before coming to school.
Uniform
We would like our pupils to return to school wearing uniform. However, we recognise that many parents will not have had the opportunity to buy new uniform and that most children will have outgrown what they had. We also acknowledge the financial strain many families have been under.
Therefore, we will not be enforcing our uniform policy in autumn 1st half term.
We will not be getting changed for PE so we need our pupils to wear trainers/appropriate footwear to allow us to do physical activities safely. Uniform will not be expected to be cleaned any more often than usual. Our policy regarding jewellery remains the same, only an inexpensive watch is allowed.
Attendance
Attendance will become mandatory once again in September 2020 and fines will be issued for non- attendance.
Curriculum
Our curriculum in September will be based on ensuring our pupils return to a safe and welcoming school environment where they are given the opportunity to redevelop friendships and are given opportunities to discuss emotions.
To begin the year in September, our focus will be on the core subjects (literacy, numeracy, science, RE, PE, computing) alongside PSHE and the arts curriculum (art, design and technology). Across the academic year, we will ensure that our pupils receive a broad and balanced curriculum with pupils being taught a full range of subjects over the year.
We will be following our ‘Rainbow Curriculum’ in September (which includes elements of the Recovery Curriculum) and this focuses on; providing children with opportunities to rebuild relationships and a sense of community, space to establish a sense of [awareness of] self and to relearn positive habits for learning skills.
