I have been part of the Governing Body at Millennium Primary since 2013. I was appointed when I was elected County Councillor for Tow Law, but I enjoyed supporting the school so much that I asked if I could stay on as an Associate Member after I stepped down.
I am currently Governance Manager for a regional Combined Authority – which is when a group of councils come together to create jobs and invest in the local economy. It is my job to make sure we have the right systems in place to make the right strategic decisions, consult with stakeholders, fulfil our legal obligations for things like transparency and to deliver on our ambitions, and I want to do the same for the school. Before this, I worked in Children’s Services for Newcastle Council and as a journalist, which helps me as the governor with responsibility for communications.
I have two children of primary school age (who aren’t lucky enough to attend Millennium Primary) and I am married to a teacher (who isn’t lucky enough to teach at Millennium Primary).
