Operation Spruce Up

April 29, 2018 by helendobson

On Monday 23rd April, some of our Green Leaders went to assist Durham County Council in ‘Operation Spruce Up’. This is a campaign with an aim to ‘clean up’ and ‘green up’ front streets in local communities.

Chris Hindmarsh, Civic Pride Officer at Durham County Council, contacted school after the event:

‘Just wanted to say thank you to the School and the staff and pupils who assisted us this morning for the launch of Spruce Up Tow Law.

The pupils were fantastically well behaved and certainly expert gardeners, I think they were showing our lads a thing or two! Thanks so much.’

On Wednesday 18th April, we were visited by a member of staff from Durham County Council to talk to our pupils about waste and recycling. They learnt about what can be recycled and which items to put in the blue lid bin or the green box.

Ruth, the external project officer, who visited us, emailed after the visit saying:

‘The children behaved beautifully, they are a real credit to you!’

World Book Day

April 12, 2018 by helendobson

A fantastic day revolving around books!

Children came into school dressed as their favourite book character or in their pyjamas ready for a day of book related activities. The highlight of the day for lots of children was the shared reading time with other older/younger children in school.

We were very lucky to end our day with an assembly from Lingotots. The children learnt songs in French and were also told the story of the very hungry caterpillar in French.
