My name is Michelle Fernandez, I have lived in Tow law for 13 years and both my children go to Tow Law Millennium School.
Since I have become Parent Governor, I try and help with fundraising and volunteering to help with the fayres. I have tried to be a voice for parents and help make decisions and choices that will benefit all our children.
I have completed Safeguarding Training and Autism Training to help with my understanding to make sure children can fulfil their full potential whatever their background, SEN or disabilities are. Inclusion is a top priority for me as having a disabled child has shown me how it affects children physically and mentally and how we can help them feel included.
I have nearly 17 years working for Durham County Council in a financial environment; also I was a school secretary in the past. This gives me the skills to understand budgets and the admin side of the school. I recently took the role of chair for the Finance, Premises and Personnel meetings. I am also involved in looking at the new phonics programme and I must say, from a mother’s opinion, I think it is amazing.
My main aim is to help steer the school in the right direction and retain its good reputation for academic success and happy, friendly children.
